3 Freshmen to Watch for Boston College Football in 2025

With the 2025 Boston College football season just over a month away, we wanted to highlight three of BC’s top recruits coming to the Heights this fall. Whether they make an impact right away or they take some time to settle in, these are the players you will want to watch this season as they have the potential to become key contributors.

Sterling Sanders (DL)

Boston College’s incoming defensive lineman Sterling Sanders comes out of South Carolina and was even rated as a 4-star recruit by 247Sports. Originally committed to Georgia Southern, Sanders decided to ship up to Boston with an announcement last fall.

Sanders really stands out in his ability to stuff running backs at the line of scrimmage with his large 6’4” and 315lbs presence. BC had a solid run defense last season that should continue to be effective in 2025, especially with the arrival of Sanders. If he’s able to get some solid playing time this season in a group that’s already seen some success, then his potential could be high as an eventual leader of the DL within a couple of years.

Dawson Pough (WR)

There’s going to be a huge focus on BC’s wide receiver room this season as Bill O’Brien fully transitions Boston College into his vision of a pro-style offense. Players like Lewis Bond and Reed Harris showed some early success with QB Grayson James last season, but the group really needs more playmakers if they want to have an offense that can make an impact in the ACC.

That’s where Dawson Pough comes in. Although he’s just a 3-star recruit, Pough is a former track athlete and multi-position player that can bring some speed to this BC wide receiver group. We don’t know yet whether he will get significant playing time for the Eagles, but there are really not many stand out WRs on the roster and there will be an opportunity for someone to break through. If it’s going to be a freshman, my bet would be on Pough.

Omarion Davis (DB)

Omarion Davis is an All-State safety out of South Carolina with a lot of speed and solid footwork. BC needs a lot of help in their secondary and has not brought in many transfers to help carry the load, so Davis is going to be a key young player to watch develop. He’s BC’s top DB recruit coming into the program this year and their 2nd best overall recruit according to 247Sports.

As a safety, Davis will be competing with veterans KP Price, Carter Davis, Omar Thornton, and Cam Martinez for playing time in a group that finished 11th in the ACC in pass defense last season. The Eagles at least are welcoming back Amari Jackson into their starting CB spot, but otherwise need help in the defensive backfield especially after 5 depth DBs transferred out in the offseason. It seems unlikely Davis will get a starting spot as a freshman, but he’ll be an important player to watch as the season progresses and he potentially earns a bigger role in a group with a lot of question marks.
