2023-24 BC Interruption Awards: Team of the Year – Women’s Lacrosse

June 24, 2024 by BC Interruption

NCAA Lacrosse: Womens Lacrosse Championship
Jeffrey Camarati-USA TODAY Sports

No surprises here – your 2024 National Champions are our Team of the Year! Lacrosse unanimously won this year’s award after earning the ACC and NCAA championship trophies and finishing with a 20-3 record.

The Eagles lost just 3 games this season, falling to Northwestern by a score of 14-11 in February, to Notre Dame 15-14 in March, and to Virginia 13-12 in BC’s last regular season away game of the year. BC closed out the regular season with an 11-10 overtime victory against #2 Syracuse at Alumni Stadium before dominating the ACC Tournament.

BC started off the ACC Tournament with a 19-5 win over Duke, then defeated Notre Dame 9-7, and finally beat top seeded Syracuse 15-8 in the championship game. The Eagles then moved on to the NCAA Tournament, hosting the first 2 rounds at BC. First up, the Eagles beat Princeton 21-16. BC then defeated Michigan 14-9 to head back to the Final Four. In the NCAA Semifinals, the Eagles met Syracuse yet again, and yet again took down the Orange, this time by a score of 10-7.

The Eagles started off their seventh straight NCAA Championship game struggling. The Eags quickly found themselves down 6-0 to #1 Northwestern, BC’s largest deficit of the season. The Eagles came out fighting in the second quarter, and went into halftime down just 8-6. A low scoring third period saw BC continuing to catch up, and the Wildcats led just 10-9 heading into the final period of play. The Eagles outscored Northwestern 5-2 in that final period, earning BC a 15-14 victory and the program’s second women’s lacrosse National Championship.

Congrats to a team that always makes us proud to be Eagles!
