USA defeats Australia 97 – 78 with big second-half push to advance to gold medal game

August 5, 2021 by Celtics Wire Leave a Comment

USA beat Australia to advance to the gold medal game despite falling down 15 points early in the first half of the game. The team would win with a strong second half behind 23 points from Brooklyn Nets star forward Kevin Durant, 20 points from Phoenix Suns star guard Devin Booker and Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday logging 11 points, 8 rebounds, and as many assists.

They managed it despite the team missing its first 10 3-point attempts, going on a 48 – 14 run to force the victory. Boston Celtics All-Star forward Jayson Tatum put up 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists while shooting 3-of-9 shooting overall, and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.

The US next faces the winner of the France – Slovakia game in the gold medal contest on Saturday, August 7th.

If his comments Wednesday were any indication, Celtics fans could finally see the version of Romeo Langford they expected when he was taken in the 2019 lottery. https://t.co/yeoY3R4qrb
