Spurs rumored to have interest in Kristaps Porzingis

San Antonio is interested in adding the Celtics big man.

With Jrue Holiday being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons late last night, Brad Stevens has officially fired his opening shot of the 2025 NBA offseason.

Many are wondering what Stevens’ next move is going to be, and all eyes seem locked on to Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis is another name that has floated around the rumor mill this offseason with Golden State and New Orleans as possible suitors. Now, the San Antonio Spurs seem very interested in pairing him up with Victor Wembanyama.

Per Jake Fischer of the Stein Line, “the Spurs, sources say, have held some exploratory talks about trading for the 7-foot-2 center. That would certainly be a fascinating outcome for Porziņģis if he were to land with the on-the-rise Spurs alongside the 7-foot-5 Victor Wembanyama.”

However, Fischer followed that up by saying, “As Monday night dribbled into Tuesday morning, I was cautioned that San Antonio, in the end, should probably be classified as an unlikely destination for Porzingis.”

The Spurs have the contracts to match Porzingis’ $30 million contract and it would be interesting to see the deal that Brad Stevens could possibly cook up. Possible deals that could work out include a 1-for-1 swap of Porzingis and draft compensation for Devin Vassell who makes $27 million, saving the Celtics around $3.7 million.

Another possible deal that could work out includes Harrison Barnes’ $19 million expiring contract plus another expiring contract like Malaki Branham to make the salaries work. This second deal would save Boston $6.8 million and the Celtics could also add draft picks to this deal if needed.
