The Mavericks need more from Kyrie Irving if they plan on hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy and the All-Star guard appears confident that that’s what he’ll give them.
After struggling mightily in Sunday night’s Game 2 loss, Irving walked off the court letting Boston fans know that he’ll be back at TD Garden for Game 5.
Celtics fans have been on Kyrie since the Finals tipped-off due to their history over the years. Irving’s exit from Beantown was less than ceremonious and that bad blood has spilled over into his stints with Brooklyn and Dallas.
The eight-time All-Star recently reflected on that time in his life ahead of the Finals matchup vs. his former team. Admitting, he wasn’t his “best self” back then.
“I know sometimes in sports, it’s literally about the end goal and result in what you accomplish, and that’s one thing,” Irving said. “But we’re still human. At the end of the day, I wasn’t my best self during that time. When I look back on it, I just see it as a time where I learned how to let go of things and learned how to talk through my emotions.”

Kyrie hasn’t been the best on-court version of himself either through the series’ first two games.
Hopefully for Dallas’ sake the former NBA champ is able to turn it up a notch with the Mavs’ backs against the wall as they return to the Lone Star State.
