Porzingis, who battled an illness in the latter half of the season and throughout the postseason, shared he’s feeling “much better.”
Kristaps Porzingis, who battled what Brad Stevens described as a “post-viral syndrome” throughout the postseason, shared an update on his health on Tuesday morning.
“Thanks for all the support and questions about my health. I’ve been feeling excellent all offseason and looking forward to a healthy and strong European championship with my NT.”
Porzingis, who missed 11 games with an illness in late February and early March, struggled throughout the playoffs.
“It was extremely, extremely frustrating not knowing what I had,” Porzingis said upon his return. “I haven’t been this sick, probably ever, in my life.”
Still, the Latvian center averaged 19.5 points on 48.3% shooting during the regular season. However, those numbers plummeted to 7.7 points on 31.% shooting, including 15.4% from three.
“Since he came back, he’s kind of been dealing with it — working through it, fighting through it, doing the best he can,” Joe Mazzulla said after the Celtics’ Game 2 loss to the Knicks. “And I think it was just too much for him in that game.”
Porzingis was available in all of the Celtics 11 postseason games, but he was relegated to the bench by the end and struggled mightily on both ends.
Now, nearly six weeks since the Celtics’ postseason elimination, it appears he’s turned a corner.

Porzingis will participate in EuroBasket, which begins on August 27 and runs through September 14.
His future in Boston remains uncertain, with the Celtics continuing to retool their roster in the wake of Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury and a roster that remains above the second apron.
Jrue Holiday, who was acquired the same summer Porzingis was, was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers late Monday night in exchange for Anfernee Simons and two second-round picks. Even after the trade, the Celtics remain about $18 million above the second apron.
As such, Porzingis’s name has been swirling in trade rumors. The Athletic’s Jay King reported: “The Celtics are still shopping other players, including Kristaps Porziņģis, with an eye on alleviating their salary-cap dilemma, according to league sources.”
