Joe Mazzulla Called Out For ‘Rude’ Postgame Interview With Reporter

May 30, 2023 by The Spun

PHILADELPHIA, PA – MAY 5: Head Coach Joe Mazzulla of the Boston Celtics talks to the media during Game Three of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals of the 2023 NBA Playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers on May 5, 2023 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Photo by David Dow/NBAE via Getty Images)

Following the Celtics’ season-ending loss to the Heat, head coach Joe Mazzulla spoke to Abby Chin of NBC Sports Boston about the unfortunate result.

Mazzulla didn’t have a whole lot to say about the team’s performance, and understandably so. It was a deflating loss.

“They played better than we did,” Mazzulla replied when asked what happened. “Our guys gave everything they had and that’s the most important thing.”

Mazzulla was then asked to share his message to the locker room. He responded, “I love them.”

This interview went viral on Twitter. Some people called Mazzulla “rude” for providing such short answers.

“I absolutely despise the fact that Joe Mazzulla was rude and terse with Abby Chin of NBC Sports Boston. She’s there to do a job and Mazzulla being a prick in the way he answers her doesn’t do him any sort of good,” Shukri Wrights tweeted.

Mazzulla finished his first season as the coach of the Celtics with a 57-25 record.

The Celtics will have a few important decisions to make this offseason, especially since their core has been unable to get the job done.
