How quick and thorough was the Celtics’ turnaround in Game 5? The Sultan of Stat’s calculator had to be treated for whiplash.
@DickLipe has the Celts and Jayson Tatum doing some historic stuff while eliminating the Magic.

The Celtics go into halftime with some energy off that Tatum dunk… but they’re still 0-6 from 3 (with 2 toes on the line). – 9:55 PM

Tatum going to the line for his own 6-0 run to pull the #Celtics within 1 possession. Aggressive going downhill and that mid-ranger has been there for him all series. – 9:16 PM

Here’s an interesting way the Celtics used Luke Kornet to get Derrick White a layup by screening for Jayson Tatum to make, essentially, a sacrificial cut. C’s took advantage of how they were playing Kornet, a non-threat from 3, taking advantage of Orlando not switching this. pic.x.com/RLVa2YSP3p – 3:50 PM

If there’s another X-factor that Tatum believes shouldn’t be overlooked in assessing the Celtics’ title chances, it’s head coach Joe Mazzulla. “He’s the best coach in the NBA, even though he’ll never admit that,” Tatum says. Mazzulla’s brilliance as a play caller is sometimes overshadowed by his habit of dropping unintentionally hilarious one-liners in interviews, which Tatum admits the locker room gets a kick out of. “We laugh [about it],” he says. “Like, we love to watch his press conferences.” I ask Tatum about his favorite thing Mazzulla has ever said to him. “He always tells me that he loves me,” he shares. “He’ll say it on practice days or in the middle of a game during a timeout. It’ll be the third quarter of a playoff game, a very intense atmosphere, and he’ll say ‘Just want you to know I love you, man.’” -via GQ.com / April 29, 2025
During an appearance on NBA on TNT on Tuesday night, Pritchard opened up about his achievement while talking with Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley. “I mean, it’s just a lot of people in the Celtics organization,” Pritchard said when asked what it’s like to be the latest Boston player to win the award that is also named after one of the greatest players of the franchise. “Obviously, John Havlicek being named…Kevin McHale. Obviously, a couple of other guys, Malcolm Brogdon. When I was here with him, I watched him win it. Yeah, Bill Walton. So, yeah, this is definitely an honor.” -via Clutch Points / April 22, 2025
“So his problem is, he wants to be liked when he should just be focusing on doing his job,” Shaquille O’Neal chimed in. “Clearly the owners threw him under the bus,” Barkley said. “Listen, I don’t know Nico that well, I know him a little bit. He’s not going to trade Luka Dončić without the owners doing that. And now he’s taking all the bullets, and rightfully so because that’s the job. But don’t go on TV no more man. Lay low. Just lay low.” -via Awful Announcing / April 22, 2025
“Listen man, I consider you a friend of mine. Nico Harrison, I consider you a friend of mine. I wish you nothing but the best,” Barkley prefaces. “I thought you did a good job last year with the Mavs, and obviously whatever happened this year didn’t work out. Man, don’t do no more press conferences. Like, I don’t even know what you’re doing. I really don’t. Like, I got sympathy and love for you, but I have zero idea what you’re trying to do. This war is over brotha. You takin’ the L. I hope you keep your job, I hope the team get healthy, but man, don’t do anymore interviews. Please don’t. -via Awful Announcing / April 22, 2025
Do you feel responsible for the “superteam” trend after you got LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join you in Miami? Dwyane Wade: Not responsible for a superteam. Maybe responsible for players getting together and making a decision. I don’t know what was done that preceded us. We definitely watched Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman. We definitely watched Magic Johnson play with many great Hall of Fame players. We watched Larry Bird, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale, and so forth. We’ve seen it before. -via HoopsHype / April 19, 2025
