Jayson Tatum, Luke Kornet fuel Celtics’ 8th straight win in blowout over Spurs

March 30, 2025 by Hoops Hype

After destroying the Phoenix Suns in their last matchup, the Celtics continued their west coast road trip against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. Boston continued their impressive play on the road this season, defeating the Spurs 121-111 for their eighth win a row. Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics in this game with 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists on 10-22 shooting but this game was dominated by Luke Kornet. Kornet had a double-double tonight with 15 points and a career high 16 rebounds as with the Spurs lack of a center, he was able to dominate the game.

Devin Booker and the crowd felt Luke Kornet got away with body contact on Oso Ighodaro’s dunk attempt. Book winds up matched up on Kristaps Porzingis in the post and gives him a little shove from the back. Immediately points down to the other end after the whistle blows lol – 10:46 PM

More on this storyline

JT on being a Boston Celtic: “I can’t express it enough the genuine love that I feel from the crowd… I love being here, I love getting to put on this uniform” -via reddit / March 29, 2025
Several league figures with knowledge of Boston’s thinking have remained adamant about Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown continuing to be the unquestioned on-court pillars of this franchise … despite the wishful thinking from some teams out there that Brown would somehow be made available this summer. And if the Celtics are able to go back-to-back during the forthcoming playoff tournament, it figures to be even more of a moot point. -via marcstein.substack.com / March 28, 2025
Souichi Terada: Joe Mazzulla says Jayson Tatum will see how he feels and test out his ankle before making a decision on playing tonight. He was upgraded from doubtful to questionable on the injury report earlier today. -via Twitter @SouichiTerada / March 26, 2025

Owen Phillips: Luke Kornet has been one of the most impactful bench players this season. Cs are steam rolling opponents when he’s on the court (+11.6 Netrtg.) He’s got an undeniable chemistry with Tatum, which shows in their pick & roll numbers — #2 most potent combo behind Murray/Jokic pic.x.com/yRgIQCiQvj -via Twitter @owenlhjphillips / March 21, 2025
Kornet came into the league as a stretch five, but since arriving in Boston he’s quietly reinvented himself as a bruiser that feasts on shots inside the restricted area. He’s all but abandoned his three-point shot since joining the Celtics and it’s resulted in a dramatic increase in his scoring efficiency. His career is playing out like the reverse of Brook Lopez’s: fewer threes and more dunks. Additionally, Kornet has been a monster on the offensive glass. He has 144 offensive rebounds this season, which is 60 more than anyone else has on the Celtics. His knack for creating second chance opportunities gives Boston a counter punch and forces opposing coaches to think twice before going small unless they want to surrender the battle on the boards. -via Substack / March 20, 2025
