ESPN Computer Predicts Who’ll Win Celtics vs. Heat Tonight

May 30, 2023 by The Spun

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – MAY 27: Jimmy Butler #22 of the Miami Heat shoots a three point basket against Marcus Smart #36 of the Boston Celtics during the fourth quarter in Game Six of the 2022 NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals at TD Garden on May 27, 2022 in Boston, Massachusetts. Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Celtics and Heat is set for tonight in Boston.

The heavily-favored Celtics dropped the first three games of the series to the eighth-seeded Heat, but recovered to win Game 4 by double digits and keep their season alive, at least for now.

The odds are still stacked against Boston–no NBA team has ever rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win a postseason series.

However, oddsmakers have installed the Celtics as 7.5-to-8.5 point favorites tonight, and ESPN’s Analytics also expects the Atlantic Division champions to win Game 5.

According to ESPN’s computer, Boston has an 81.6% percent chance of winning tonight, compared to just 18.4% for the Heat.

The good news here for Miami is they have been defying the odds all postseason long. Heading into this series, ESPN Analytics gave the Heat only 3% chance of advancing, and now they are one win away from the NBA Finals.

You can catch Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals tonight on TNT. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

The winner of the series will move on to the NBA Finals, where it will face the Denver Nuggets, who are looking for the first NBA title in franchise history.
