Duke assistant Amile Jefferson is reportedly finalizing a multi-year deal to become an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics, according to Travis Branham of 247Sports.

Jefferson was a three-time captain for the Blue Devils during his time as a player and won a National Championship with the program in 2015. He also signed a brief Exhibit 10 contract with the Celtics in 2020, but never saw anytime on the court.

Jefferson joined Duke’s staff as the team’s director of player development in the summer of 2021. After one year at that position, he was promoted to assistant coach under new head coach Jon Scheyer.

Jefferson played five full seasons for Duke (2012-17). He played in a program-record 150 games with 103 starts, averaging 7.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest.

After going unselected in the 2017 NBA Draft, Jefferson notched stints with the G-League’s Iowa Wolves (2017-18), Orlando Magic (2018-20), Boston Celtics (2020) and the Turkish Basketball Super League’s Galatasaray (2020-21).
