After 43 years serving as the voice of the Boston Celtics, veteran broadcaster Mike Gorman is retiring at the end of the 2023-24 season. To celebrate the milestone, Celtics Wire spoke to members of the Celtics press corp who have gotten to know Gorman best over the years.
Radio analyst Sean Grande spoke of their many years calling games, while writer Steve Bulpett shared his best wishes for Gorman after decades covering the Celtics. One person has had a unique perspective on Gorman’s retirement, however, namely his 26-year-old colleague at NBC Sports Boston Drew Carter. Carter has been Gorman’s understudy for away games this season, granting him a distinct window into Gorman’s work.
Carter told Celtics Wire how quickly he came to admire Gorman’s kindness, mentorship, and legacy.
