Doc Rivers Given “A Good Chance” To Take Top NBA Broadcast Job Next Season

After parting ways with Jeff Van Gundy earlier this summer, ESPN needs someone to take his place on their top NBA broadcast team with Mike Breen. Could Doc Rivers be the guy?

According to Chad Finn of the Boston Globe, Rivers has “a good chance” of joining the ESPN broadcast team alongside Breen and potentially Doris Burke as their top trio.

Rivers was recently fired as the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers after three seasons and three exits in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. He’s not exactly lacking for experience either as he previously did broadcast work in between his stints as head coach of the Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics.

Fans are a bit mixed on the idea though. Some feel that he’s funny enough and knowledgeable enough for the job while others believe that his voice won’t make for good commentary.

Nothing is imminent now, but hearing there’s a good chance that Doc Rivers and Doris Burke join Mike Breen on ESPN’s top NBA broadcast team next season.

“Doc was great in-between Magic and Celtics HC jobs. Hoping he still has it. Doris isn’t a surprise either. Van Gundy/Jackson got a little stale. If it was a regular season game they’d go on tangents that lasted way longer than they should have and never focused on game action,” one user replied.

“Oh my gosh, love Doc for his championship here in Boston, but listening to him for an entire game will make my ears bleed,” wrote another.

“That’s a great crew but I will still miss Van Gundy,” a third user wrote.

Would you watch an NBA broadcast with Doc Rivers on the commentary team?
