The Boston Celtics continue to explore trade possibilities involving Anfernee Simons, sources tell Marc Stein. The Celtics acquired Simons from the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the Jrue Holiday trade. Simons, who is represented by Bill Duffy, is on an expiring contract worth $27.7 million.
Simons averaged 19.3 points and 4.8 assists last season with the Blazers.
Boston is interested in shedding more salary to get under the luxury tax and have prioritized retaining Sam Hauser despite his tradeable four-year, $45 million contract. The Celtics are approximately $20 million over the luxury tax and getting below it during a season where they will be without Jayson Tatum as he recovers from his Achilles injury would be beneficial long-term.
