Celtics prefer not to trade Jaylen Brown and Derrick White

June 12, 2025 by Hoops Hype

Shams Charania: “Are teams making big offers and calling about Jaylen Brown and Derrick White? One hundred percent. The Celtics prefer not to trade them from my understanding. But listen, if they get a big offer, they have to look at everything. Between now and the draft and free agency, they’re going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective. And that’s where they’re going to move. Pat McAfee: Everybody but Tatum. Shams Charania: Essentially.

“One of the concerns people in San Antonio told me about is, you go and deal for a guy like Giannis, all of a sudden you’ve created a championship window, but it is a window with a closing date. You’ve got De’Aaron Fox, who’s in his late 20s, Giannis in his early 30s, and the last thing they want is to have a roster after those guys kind of age out where when (Victor) Wembanyama is maybe looking around going, ‘All right, where are the young guys I’m going to play with after that?’ “It certainly is a problem for another day, but that’s on the mind of the San Antonio Spurs. That’s why they want to hold on to Stephon Castle, so he can be that second guy opposite Wembanyama for a long time, assuming they trade that No. 2 pick.” -via Yahoo! Sports / June 5, 2025
Brown, a four-time All-Star and 2024 NBA Finals MVP, has massive value if Boston opts to dangle him in trade discussions. Although sending Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a popular talking point, one up-and-coming Western Conference team seems like a more realistic trade partner. “The team I’d watch the closest with Jaylen Brown is probably the Spurs,” Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated said Wednesday on NBC Sports Boston’s The Off C’season special. “Sure, I think (the Spurs would) love to make a run at Giannis, but do the Bucks ask for Stephon Castle? Like, is that on their wish list? And if it is, I can’t see San Antonio doing a deal like that. -via Yahoo! Sports / June 5, 2025
Bobby Marks: The Celtics and Timberwolves will receive a tax variance credit for Derrick White and Jaden McDaniels not being named to one of the All-Defensive teams. Both players had bonuses in their contracts that were deemed likely from the prior season. Boston: $250K Minnesota: $431K -via x.com / May 22, 2025
Appearing on The Zach Lowe Show, Murdock said the Warriors are “looking at” White this offseason, citing him as the kind of high-IQ, two-way player who could elevate Golden State’s backcourt. “Another guy that I think you should look at for the Warriors going forward is Derrick White… I think that’s something the Warriors are looking at right now.” -via Heavy.com / May 20, 2025
The Celtics’ precise determination to keep their various veterans is difficult to calculate so soon after the defending champions’ Round 2 exit to the Knicks in six games and the devastating loss of Jayson Tatum to an Achilles rupture, but the early projections in circulation suggest Boston is more apt to make Jrue Holiday available via trade this offseason than Derrick White. Most rival teams continue to regard Kristaps Porziņģis as the most movable Boston vet thanks to the Latvian big man’s $30.7 million expiring contract. Porziņģis, though, managed to exceed 20 minutes in only one of the Celtics’ games in the New York series because of a perplexing energy-sapping illness that has plagued him since March. -via marcstein.substack.com / May 19, 2025
