Celtics Confident In Potentially Trading Porzingis, Holiday Without Losing Value

June 13, 2025 by Real GM

The Boston Celtics are exploring ways to reduce their payroll this offseason, with Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday emerging as potential trade candidates. While some league observers speculate that Boston might need to attach draft compensation to move these contracts, sources tell Jake Fischer that the Celtics remain confident they can cut salary while extracting positive value in return.

Rather than operating with urgency to dump salary, the Celtics are taking a measured approach to potential roster moves. One strategic option involves trading Porzingis and his $30.7 million contract during the offseason, then making additional salary-cutting moves before February’s trade deadline.

According to Fischer’s reporting, Boston is willing to listen to offers for any player on their roster except core Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The next tier of near-untouchables includes Payton Pritchard and Derrick White.

Pritchard’s stock has risen significantly after capturing Sixth Man of the Year honors, positioning him for an expanded role in the upcoming season. Meanwhile, White has become so integral to Boston’s success on both ends of the floor that the Celtics would reportedly demand a premium package similar to what the Brooklyn Nets received from the New York Knicks for Mikal Bridges to even consider moving him.

The Celtics were widely expected to shed salary this offseason, but the Achilles injury to Tatum may accelerate their aggressiveness in hopes of resetting the roster for title contention again when he returns in 2026-2027.
