The Boston Celtics epitomized the Janus-faced nature of their 2020-21 NBA season against the San Antonio Spurs to come back from 32 points down in the first half in some of the worst basketball they played this year to win the game in overtime behind a franchise record 60 points from Jayson Tatum.
A career high for the Duke product, Tatum matched the record set by legendary Celtic Larry Bird on March 12, 1985 against the Atlanta Hawks with the performance that also saw him log 8 rebounds, 5 assists and a block. He shot a sizzling 20-for-37 and 5-for-7 from 3-point range.
As tough of a start the game had, it was historic in that it was also the third-biggest comeback in the last 25 years.
Jayson Tatum has tied Larry Bird for the most points scored in a game by a Celtics player as his team pulled off the third-biggest comeback in the last 25 years.
