Still, in an offseason dominated by cost-cutting moves, Boston’s front office might move Hauser to stay under the second tax apron.
Cap Management Fuels Trade Talks
Brad Stevens pulled off the Holiday and Porziņģis trades with purpose. Together, they saved Boston $180 million in luxury tax payments. The team now sits $4 million below the second apron. If they trade Hauser, that figure will grow.
The Celtics already have a potential replacement in Baylor Scheierman, the rookie they drafted with the 30th pick in the 2024 draft. Mannix previously hinted at this strategy: “I think the peeling off is going to be the Hausers,” he said in March. “The guys you have ready-made replacements for.”
Scheierman struggled from deep in college last year, hitting just 31.7%, but shot 41.1% on 10 attempts per game in the G League. His college career shows further promise: 39.0% from long range on 5.6 attempts. In a recent game against Brooklyn, he exploded for 20 points while going 7-for-8 from the floor. That performance reminded fans why Boston drafted him.
