Baylor Scheierman’s first Media Day should have fans excited for the Celtics rookie.

With the 30th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics selected Baylor Scheierman out of Creighton University. In Summer League play, he impressed fans with not only his shooting, but his passing ability and feel for the game. In his first Media Day, Scheierman revealed more about his game and the work he’s been putting in.

He’s gained twenty pounds of muscle since the start of Summer League in July and when NBC Sports Boston’s Eddie House pointed out his transformation, the rookie replied, “I’ve definitely worked on my body a lot and that’s a big emphasis for me coming into this new league. The best athletes, the most strong individuals…I have definitely put in a lot of time into that part of my game.”

Scheierman’s play hasn’t gone unnoticed by his teammates. When asked about early workouts, Sam Hauser went out of his way to praise the rookie saying, “…he’s a good shooter but he’s a lot more than a shooter. He’s got a really good feel for the game. He’s pretty crafty.”

Sam Hauser complimented the rookies and praised first-round draft pick Baylor Scheierman in particular.

“All the new additions have been great … Baylor’s a shooter, but he’s more than that. He has a good future in this league.” pic.twitter.com/JSiooqDBeS

One of my favorite answers from Baylor Scheierman during his interview with NBC Sports Boston had to be when Eddie House asked what Celtics fans could expect from him this season. Scheierman responded with, “I like to compete. Whether that’s diving on the ground for a loose ball, taking a charge, jumping over a chair like I did at Summer League. Just doing whatever it takes to win.”

When asked about who he models his game after, Scheierman said he likes to mold his game after guys like Luke Kennard and Austin Reaves as well as developing his passing game by watching a lot of Pistol Pete Maravich.

With most of the Celtics rotation filled out, there’s going to be a lot of competition for minutes. However, with his physical transformation, impressing teammates in camp, and work ethic to continually get better, we could see Scheierman get a legitimate chance to play meaningful minutes for this Celtics team this season.
