The preseason is hear and Boston starts off on the right foot.

The game started off with the captain tallying the first goal of the game early in the first. Hannah Bilka saw her first professional ice time and was the primary assist on the goal. Northeastern’s Maureen Murphy knotted the game up at 1-1 later in the period scoring against Klara Peslarova in her professional debut.

The second was less eventful until Hillary Knight gave Boston the game winner in the final minute of the frame. The gaol was set up by Jillian Dempsey in her return to a Boston sweater in her first action against her team from last year.

For the final frame there was no scoring until Boston got the insurance empty net goal off the stick of Shay Maloney in her debut.

Game Notes

  • New season means new lines and Boston made their first attempt to solve the inconsistency they had last year:

Bilka-Müller-Knight

Gabel-Tapani-Schafzahl

Rattray-Brandt-Shirley

Dempsey-Adzija-Maloney

Keller-Morin

Pejsova-Bard

DiGirolamo-Brown

Poulin Labelle

  • Aerin Frankel did not dress for Boston with her roster spot and starting job seemingly secured. Peslarova and Soderberg split duties with Peslarove allowing the only goal against for Boston.
  • Three of Boston’s eight points were tallied by rookies in their first professional action.
  • Kessel has outlasted Jim Montgomery to the surprise of many and is now the longest tenure professional hockey coach in Boston.
  • With 21 players dressed and Frankel being among the noon dressed players at least two of the players that played today will be either given a reserve spot or get cut.
