Washington Capitals Acquire Depth Forward

The Washington Capitals have announced that they have acquired forward Anthony Beauvillier from the Pittsburgh Penguins. In exchange, the Capitals send a 2025 second-round pick to the Penguins.

Anthony Beauvillier was playing in his first season with the Penguins before being dealt to the Capitals. In 63 games this season, Beauvillier has scored 13 goals and added seven assists for 20 points.

In 613 games, Beauvillier has scored 129 goals and recorded 137 assists for 266 points.

Beauvillier was originally drafted by the New York Islanders in the first round, 28th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Another Deal Between Divisional Rivals

This is not the first move between these two divisional rivals this season as earlier this year, the Penguins sent Lars Eller back to the Capitals in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

In acquiring Anthony Beauvillier, the Capitals will add some solid scoring depth for their run at Lord Stanley’s Cup. Beauvillier is a proven goal scorer, having scored over 12 goals in six of his eight seasons since entering the NHL. Beauvillier has averaged 13 minutes of ice time per game with the Penguins this season and has a shooting percentage of 10.8%. His career shooting percentage is 8.9%. This is a respectable number and just shows he has the ability to put the puck in the net.

That’s exactly what he will be expected to do as he comes to Washington. Beauvillier will likely slide onto the third line next to former Penguin and teammate Eller. This helps give the Capitals a solid three-line offensive attack.

For Beauvillier, he’s a pending unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He will be hoping to make a name for himself in Washington to hopefully lock up a longer-term deal.
