The final spot on Marco Sturm’s bench has been filled. On Friday, the Boston Bruins announced the hiring of Steve Spott to fill the last spot next to Sturm.
On the Spott.
The #NHLBruins have added Steve Spott to the team’s coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Spott seems to follow Pete DeBoer wherever he’s gone, having been an assistant with him the past 10 consecutive seasons between San Jose, Vegas and Dallas. Spott has run Dallas’ power play, which despite lots of protest from Stars fans on social media and it disappearing in the playoffs ran at a 20.4% click in the regular season, 12th-best in the NHL. It’s certainly better than 30th, but I’ll be intrigued to see what Spott does without the constraints of DeBoer on him. Seems like this is his chance to show what he can do outside of a familiar system. Will it work? Who knows!
