St. Louis Blues Veteran Defenceman Signs On for Three More

September 27, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

On this Saturday night of pre-season play, the St. Louis Blues were busy conducting some off-ice business. They announce that defenceman Cam Fowler signs a contract extension with the club. The deal is for three years. Fowler was still under contract for the 2025-26, as he is set to earn $6.5 million. His new deal will see him earn slightly less, but still very reasonable, given his age. At the end of today’s new contract extension, he will be 37. He will earn a total amount of $18.3 million, for an average annual value of $6.1 million.

Cam Fowler Signs With Blues Until 2029

Fowler only came over to the Blues from the Anaheim Ducks in December of 2024. The trade saw Jeremie Biakabutuka go the other way, as well as a draft pick each swapping sides.

Furthermore, Fowler coming over to St. Louis did add some experienced depth to their backend. Even if his price tag seemed high, he did really impress St. Louis management. In particular, that would include general manager and President of hockey operations Doug Armstrong.

Looking At Some of Fowler’s Stats

He had been off to a slow start to the season in Anaheim. In contrast, when he came over to St. Louis to end 2024-25, his rate of offence was among the best of his career. In 51 games for St. Louis, he scored nine times, added 27 assists for 36 points. He had just four points, all assists, with the Ducks in the first 17 games he had played. Moreover, his career best season was 2022-23, when he managed 48 points in 82 games played. Overall in his career he had 105 goals, 388 assists, for a total of 493 points in 1042 games played. His career average ice time is over 23 minutes, and last year as a Blue, it was at 21:42.

Fowler is a veteran of 15 years, and showed to end the year, he can be a big part of your team. The pairing of Fowler, along with Blues stud blueliner Colton Parayko, he of Team Canada 4 Nations notoriety, was the Blues best. They skates nearly 500 minutes together in 2024-25, and had an expected goal percentage of 55.5%. This is a big move for Fowler and the Blues. If the Blues are to be competitive for the life length of this contract, they’re counting on Fowler to maintain that level of play. It might end up a differentiator between St. Louis being a playoff contender or pretender during that time.
