Henry Thrun Contract Signed

The 22-year-old posted seven goals and 26 assists for 33 points in 33 games this season with the Crimson. He played in 100 career NCAA games for the Ivy League school led by former Boston Bruins player Ted Donato. The Southborough, Mass. native was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the fourth round, 101st overall of the 2019 NHL Draft. However, Thrun’s draft rights were shipped to the Sharks in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick. He would have been an unrestricted free agent if he didn’t sing by Aug. 15.

The Harvard captain helped the team win the ECAC tournament title this season and made the conference first team. Harvard saw its season end with an 8-1 loss to Ohio State in the NCAA Division I men’s tournament. However, the team was loaded with talented players like Sean Farrell and Matthew Cornato. Havard has become a consistent threat to win the ECAC and Thrun played a big part of it.

Thrun was also part of the United States National Team Development Team program. He was also part of the 2021 IIHF World Junior gold-medal winning squad.

What a Henry Thrun Contract Means

The Sharks add a player that’s gained plenty of experience in the collegiate ranks. Thrun will likely get a chance to show what he can do in the closing part of the season with a team out of contention.

San Jose has struggled this season, but do have veterans like Erik Karlsson and Marc-Édouard Vlasic that he can learn from. However, the Harvard man could be a sneaky-good pick up for the Sharks.
