Public Skate: Bruins vs. Devils

Laugh, cry, or both!

Look, it’s Sergei Samsonov with Patrik Elias in the background!

With this game being Bruins vs. Devils, I can recycle a Bruins-Devils anecdote I’ve told before: back in December 2007, the Bruins hosted the Devils at TD Garden.

That day, there was a fast-moving snowstorm that dumped ~10 inches of snow on Boston from mid-morning through the afternoon.

The Bruins, knowing no one would go to the game, sent out an email offering deeply discounted tickets.

I was living in the Suffolk dorms at the time, so some friends and I bought cheap tickets (like $15 for loge seats) and walked down.

While that game is mostly memorable for Milan Lucic fighting David Clarkson, my friend spent much of the game yelling at Martin Brodeur; given that there were probably a few thousand people in attendance, any heckling carried pretty well.

(I checked the official figure for the game, and there’s no way there were 12,000 people there.)

Anyways, late in what would end up being a 3-1 Devils win, Brodeur took of his mask to get some water during a TV timeout, and my friend (to this day) swears Brodeur stared him down in the loge.

Good times.

Hey, given the team’s performance this year, we may not be that far away from the return of $15 tickets!

Bruins! Devils! No Martin Brodeur and no snow, but plenty to complain about!

Discuss.
