Know Your Enemy

  • While the Bruins made some roster cuts this past weekend, the Flyers had made their first round of cuts, 8, on Sept. 27.
  • The Flyers faced the New York Islanders last night for their fifth preseason game. After tonight, they’ll have one more exhibition game left. Per Broad Street Hockey, the Flyers rolled out a lot of guys trying to make the final lineup last night.
  • Philadelphia is 3-1-0 before yesterday’s game against the Islanders.
  • They also got their first look at goaltender Alexei Kolosov.

Game notes

  • The Boston Bruins’ preseason is entering the home stretch as they face the Philadelphia Flyers for their fifth exhibition game tonight and last one at home.
  • It’s the two clubs’ second preseason match against each other. The two met on Saturday in Philly where the Bruins fell 3-2 in overtime. So far, the B’s are 1-2-1 in the preseason.
  • While tonight’s lineup hasn’t been announce yet, at least it was disclosed yesterday that Joonas Korpisalo will be in net next Tuesday for the season opener. If you were living under a shell yesterday, Cam Neely also dropped that they offered Jeremy Swayman a $64 million contract, but then Swayman’s agent fired back, saying that was the first they heard of that number…drama.
  • On those lines, Brandon Bussi and Korpisalo have each had a whole game between the pipes. Korpisalo had a .925 save percentage on Saturday against the Flyers while Bussi had a .875 save percentage in his full game on Thursday. The B’s may go on trend and give Michael DiPietro the whole 60 minutes as he’s the only one who hasn’t geared up for a whole game yet — we’ll have to wait and see.
  • While we still won’t see Elias Lindholm tonight, it’s encouraging he has returned to practice. In the meantime, Don Sweeney said Lindholm being out gives the Bruins more of a chance to evaluate Tyler Johnson.
  • Expect more special team mix ups tonight and we’re different guys fit into the system best. Sweeney said Lindholm and Johnson are being looked at on the power play and that bumper spot. But the Bruins are also looking at the PK this year with some big killers gone and where guys like Matt Poitras or Justin Brazeau could step up.
  • Matt Poitras has played in three of four preseason games so far. He’s really excelled and has shown the type of center he can be this year. As the team gets closer to opening night, here’s hoping the lines reflect a second line center position and who his wings might be.
  • While Bruins management said it’s not the last Fabian Lysell will see of camp despite being sent down to Providence this weekend, there are still a few noteworthy forwards to watch for: Cole Koepke and Riley Tufte.
  • See ya tonight!
