Game notes

  • It’s a quick turnaround for the Boston Bruins, and hopefully quick enough for them to forget last night, as they face the Ottawa Senators.
  • The B’s will look to recover after dropping last night’s game against the New Jersey Devils. 5-1, after the Devils had a four-goal second period. Joonas Korpisalo started in the third period which is likely an indication that interim head coach Joe Sacco wants Jeremy Swayman in net tonight.
  • With the only Bruins goal last night which had given his team the lead, Morgan Geekie said postgame that the team is letting games slip away from them and “it’s embarrassing.”
  • The Bruins only saw the Senators a few days ago — a 6-5 shootout loss on Jan. 18. This season, the Bruins have dropped both contests to the Senators, but at least earned a point in each.
  • The Bruins are now 51 games into the season. They are right there in the race with many teams in the same position, but really for the first time in a long time are struggling to stay in a playoff position. They are tied at 52 points with a few teams, including Ottawa right now, for one of those spots so tonight is a big game definitely for at least that reason — besides trying to find consistency.
  • Since the Senators last saw the Bruins, they are 1-1-0. They last played on Tuesday when they were blanked 5-0 by the New York Rangers.
  • Despite last night’s loss, David Pastrnak’s assist on Geekie’s goal extended his point streak to five games with five goals and seven assists. Geekie also has goals in three of his last five games.
  • For Ottawa, Josh Norris has three points on two goals and one assist in his last five games. Besides their 6-5 shootout win, the Senators have only scored four goals total in the other four games of the last five. Two of those included being shut out by their opponent.
  • See ya tonight!
