Original Six, etc.

Just the facts

When: Tonight, 7 PM

Where: Little Caesars Arena – Detroit, MI

How to follow: NESN, 98.5 The Sports Hub

Opposing perspective: Wingin’ It In Motown

Know your enemy

  • 8-9-2, 18PTS, 6th in the Atlantic Division
  • Lucas Raymond: 3G-15A-18PTS; Alex Debrincat: 8G-9A-17PTS; Dylan Larkin: 11G-5A-16PTS
  • Cam Talbot: 5-3-2, 2.67 GAA, .920 save percentage

Game notes

  • The Sacco Show hits the road for an Atlantic Division showdown between two teams that are certainly disappointed in their seasons to this point (probably the Bruins moreso than the Wings, but still).
  • The Wings won their last game, a 2-1 win over the Islanders that saw Detroit score twice in the third period, including the GWG in the last minute, to win it. Prior to that, the Wings had lost five of six.
  • I haven’t looked at the stats to back this up with actual facts, but I feel like Dylan Larkin always scores against the Bruins. He’s off to a great start for Detroit, with 11 goals in 19 games.
  • After Alex Lyon started the aforementioned win against the Islanders (and played well), Cam Talbot will be back in net for Detroit tonight.
  • Vladimir Tarasenko, signed at a high after winning the Cup in Florida, isn’t exactly off to a great start in Detroit: he has just two goals in 18 games.
  • Our friends at Wingin’ It In Motown recently proposed an idea that would certainly add some juice to a Bruins-Red Wings rivalry: the Wings should hire Jim Montgomery.
  • If the Bruins are going to build on the power play momentum that came with finally scoring a PPG Thursday, tonight would be the night to do it: the Wings have the league’s worst penalty kill (67.3%).
  • I am not Joe Sacco, and he seems to disagree with me — but if I were, I’d have a hard time taking Joonas Korpisalo out of the crease after another good performance on Thursday.
  • The Bruins recalled Marc McLaughlin from Providence on Friday, sending Georgii Merkulov the other way. No knock on McLaughlin, who is having a good season in Providence, but I would have preferred to see Merkulov stick around for a few more games.

See ya tonight!
