Game notes
- The Bruins open a two-game road trip tonight against the Florida Panthers at the FLA Live Arena. It’s their first of four back-to-backs on road-trips this season. The Bruins are 1-1-0 in road games so far.
- The B’s last faced the Panthers on March 5, 2020 in the last handful of regular season games of the 2019-20 season. The win dealt the Panthers their eight-straight loss. This time around, the Bruins’ are looking to end a different Panthers’ streak.
- Will the Bruins end another win streak for their opponent? They did so on Sunday with a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks. Currently, the Panthers are one of four teams still undefeated this season. In Florida’s wins, they’ve scored four or five goals in each contest.
- The Panthers’ win over the Arizona Coyotes on Monday had a similar tale as the Bruins’ last win. The Panthers took a 3-1 lead on goals from Joe Thornton, Frank Vatrano and Ekblad after two periods. They added a cushion goal in the first seven minutes of the third period from Huberdeau to make it 4-1, but two tallies in 34 seconds from Arizona tightened the score. Anthony Duclair scored an empty-netter to give his team a 5-3 win.
- While Brad Marchand might not be satisfied with his start to the season, his numbers say differently. He’s on a four-game point streak and has registered multi-point nights in three of the games. In the first four games, he’s registered seven points with four goals and three assists. He last opened the first four games of a season with seven points in 2018-19 and went on to accumulate 100 points that season.
- Injury updates: Curtis Lazar was back at practice yesterday. Bruce Cassidy said he could be cleared for tonight as long as he feels good. Lazar had been out of the lineup since the final preseason game with an elbow injury. Craig Smith was absent from the skate and ruled out for both road games. Cassidy hopes he is ready for Saturday. Nick Foligno is still on injured reserve.
- Jack Studnicka and Oskar Steen skated yesterday with Smith and Foligno out of the lineup. Both practiced on the same lines and at the same positions from Sunday’s game. But if Lazar is game ready, there will be some shuffling on the fourth line and it will more than likely make Studnicka the odd-man out.
- Linus Ullmark will get his third consecutive start tonight while Jeremy Swayman will get the nod tomorrow against the Carolina Hurricanes. He’s 2-0-0 in his two starts with a 2.00 GAA and .935 save percentage on 62 shots faced. While he allowed three goals against the Sharks, Ullmark made 17 saves to keep in a 4-1 game through 55 minutes before allowing the first deflection goal.
See ya tonight!
