- The Washington Capitals fell to the Philadelphia Flyers, 6-2, in their preseason opener on Sunday. Andrew Cristall and Ivan Miroshnichenko scored for Washington.

Game notes
- It’s a quick turnaround time for the Boston Bruins’ second preseason contest. Tonight, they’ll face off against the Washington Capitals.
- While there are still al few young faces in the lineup, there should be more excitement with Matt Poitras returning to TD Garden ice and seeing Tyler Johnson in his first exhibition game in a B’s uniform.
- The Bruins will get another look at Fabian Lysell and Georgii Merkulov tonight after a less than stellar first game on Sunday for the two. The two forwards didn’t really generate much offense against the Rangers and they’ll want to have a better showing tonight.
- Other guys suiting up again include Patrick Brown, Riley Tufte, Jordan Oesterle, Jaxon Nelson and Hanson, Massachusetts, native Billy Sweezey.
- Bruins goaltenders split the game on Sunday so will probably happen again. DiPietro faced 10 shots, making nine saves in his half of the game. We’ll also have our eyes on Joonas Korpisalo making his Bruins’ debut as a likely storyline coming out of tonight.
- The Bruins announced yesterday who will be playing against the Capitals. Those players are:
