Ottawa Senators’ Star Forward Out

October 15, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The Ottawa Senators will be without star forward and captain Brady Tkachuk for at least four weeks. This follows an awkward check into the boards from Roman Josi in the Senators home opening loss against Nashville. It’s unclear if he will require surgery.

Tkachuk continued on in the play after the hit and seemed not to be seriously injured, until trying to get back at Josi with a crosscheck where he appeared to be shaking his right hand and heading over to the bench in some discomfort. He was never officially ruled out after the play, but did not get on the ice for most of the third period and did not finish the game when the Senators were on the power play late and trying to tie it before a couple of empty netters.

Tkachuk has been the heartbeat of the Senators since being drafted, and is one of the most important players on the roster. The Senators will need the rest of the team to fill the void and bring the energy and pull into the fight that Tkachuk brings on a nightly basis.

What it Means for the Senators

The Senators have played without Tkachuk before, going 11-10-4. Players will need to step up in a big way and Fabian Zetterlund looks to be getting the chance. Zetterlund is listed on puckpedia.com as the first line right wing in place of Tkachuk. In his career, Zetterlund has 52 goals and 116 points in 250 games. He now appears to have the opportunity to play on the wing beside Tim Stutzle.

It’s a massive blow to the Senators without question. Their captain’s work ethic and drive will be missed. He is strong on the forecheck and power play. Look for Shane Pinto and Dylan Cozens to step up and contribute.
