Well, the news is in and it’s not exactly what Edmonton Oilers fans want to hear. Even though there is still some uncertainty in Elliotte Friedman’s report, there is some newsworthy information. From the update, Connor McDavid will miss at least a couple of weeks with his current injury. Everyone is still awaiting a more exact diagnosis and timeline. However, the consensus is the Oilers avoided anything too major.

An Update on the Connor McDavid Injury Status
Connor McDavid was injured in Monday’s 6-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. It happened just 37 seconds into the game, as McDavid appeared to catch an edge as he was gathering speed. Furthermore, he definitely went down hard on his left foot. Shortly after he was shown to not be putting much weight on the foot. Friedman’s report today is important to let everyone know he will miss a couple of weeks. Previously, it was only known he’d be out for Thursday’s clash with the Nashville Predators.
McDavid is one of the faces of the entire NHL. Having him miss time isn’t good for the whole league, much less his club side, the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers have been out to a slow start at 4-5-1, and being without their best player, can’t be good. McDavid is currently tied for the team lead in points at ten with Leon Draisaitl. The three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner will be missed by his teammates, and they hope it won’t be for any longer than is being reported. McDavid currently sits at 992 points and reaching the magical 1000-point milestone is a foregone conclusion.
What Does This Mean for the Oil
The Oilers as a team need to use this injury as a rallying cry. They need to find a way to get it done in their superstar’s absence. Lots of players need to get it going. McDavid’s linemate, Zach Hyman, still only has one point on the campaign. More depth-type forwards like Adam Henrique and Connor Brown also only have a point each. These are examples of players that need to be better without their captain in the lineup. If they’re not, Edmonton may find themselves in an insurmountable hole if they want to play for the Stanley Cup by the time McDavid returns. The time is now for this group to come together.
