NHL Predictions: Oct. 29 Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins

October 29, 2024 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome back to NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey looks at the games and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head matchups and other factors that may play in the final outcome. In this edition, the Philadelphia Flyers head to Boston to face the Bruins for the first time this season. Be sure to check out more NHL Predictions as the 2024-25 season continues.

NHL Predictions

Philadelphia Flyers (2-6-1) at Boston Bruins (4-4-1)

Time: 7:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

Location: TD Garden, Boston, MA

TV: NBCSP, NESN, ESPN+
2023-254 Regular Season Series: Bruins beat Flyers (2-1)

Why Philadelphia Can Take This Matchup

Things are looking very bleak in Philadelphia, they need to turn things around ASAP. After winning their first game, they dropped six straight, before finally getting another victory this weekend against the Minnesota Wild. The Flyers have started to find their groove on the scoring end. Over the last three games, they have scored 13 goals, just one less than they had scored prior to the first of those three matchups. However, they have had trouble getting pucks in the net early in most of these contests. Of their nine games, Philadelphia scored first in just three, causing them to fall behind often. Playing from behind is never a good thing, especially for a team that is struggling to put together winning efforts. If they want to win this one, they have to beat Boston to open the scoring, and they have to run with that momentum that comes with it. If they fall behind again, it will be tough to come back and win, especially in that building.

Why Boston Can Take This Matchup

The Bruins have a shot to win every night with the talent they have on their roster. Led by captain Brad Marchand, the Bruins come into this game riding high after a big OT win Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Boston snapped a three-game losing streak with this rivalry matchup win. Boston has stumbled out of the gate this season but looks to extend their winning streak against Philadelphia, who they fare very well against. In the last 20 matchups, the Bruins have a record of (14-4-2) against Philly. Their dominance over the Flyers comes with contributions from the whole team. But certain individuals like David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand often find themselves on the scoresheet against Philadelphia propelling Boston to victory.
In their careers, Marchand has played 51 games against Philly tallying 49 points (18 Goals, 31 Assists). Meanwhile, Pastrnak has seen Philadelphia 31 times, racking up 43 points (26 Goals, 17 assists). These two pose a threat to the opposing team every night. Conversely, when you put them up against a team they both dominate against, they are a lot more dangerous. Apart from these two, goalie Jeremy Swayman has been a big problem for the Flyers so far in his young NHL career. He has faced Philadelphia six times, capturing four wins against them while only allowing an average of three goals against in those games. With him in line to start, the Bruins should fare well Tuesday night, and will most likely walk away with a victory.

NHL Predictions Time

The Flyers head back on the road after dropping another game at home. The Bruins, on the other hand, are riding into this one on their high horse after their big OT win. We don’t see Boston slowing down at all in this matchup, and we also don’t think Philadelphia will be able to keep up with them. Boston is gonna jump on the Flyers early and never look back.

Prediction: Final Score Boston Bruins 6 – Philadelphia Flyers 2

NHL Prediction Prop Bets

We are expecting a big victory for the Bruins over the Flyers tomorrow, according to Fanduel, the Bruins to cover the spread of 1.5 goals is +122.
