NHL Predictions: March 8th St. Louis Blues Vs. Los Angeles Kings

March 8, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome to NHL Predictions! The NHL Trade Deadline is behind us. After a week of non-stop trade rumours and news, we are back to solely focusing on what happens on the ice. On the ice Saturday, we have 10 games across the NHL. This includes the game we are looking at between the St. Louis Blues and the Los Angeles Kings.

NHL Predictions

St. Louis Blues vs. Los Angeles Kings

Time: 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time

TV: KMOV-TV, Victory+, FanDuel Sports Network West

Head-to-Head: Blues Lead 2-0

The Blues and Kings started their season series last Saturday. In an interesting schedule choice, the NHL scheduled the entire series to be played in a week. After the Blues won on home ice, the series shifted to Los Angeles on Wednesday, where the Blues were victorious in a shootout. Now, the Blues look for the series sweep on Saturday. If they win, they will sweep the Kings for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

Blues End California Trip

After a three-game trip in California, the Blues will have some time off before they resume their road trip Thursday against Pittsburgh. The time off will be beneficial to the Blues as they look to construct their lineup following the injury to Colton Parayko.

The Blues were in action on Friday in Anaheim. As a result, we can expect a different lineup on Saturday. Jordan Binnington got the start between the pipes on Friday, so we can expect to see Joel Hofer get the nod against the Kings. This is an interesting decision by head coach Jim Montgomery. The Ducks are sellers, while the Kings are looking to win their division. One may have expected to see Hofer against the Ducks and Binnington against the Kings. Regardless of what we may have expected, the reality is we are likely seeing Hofer against the Kings. However, Hofer has proved he deserves a chance against a top team. If Hofer does indeed get the nod, it will be interesting to see how he performs.

Those Pesky Central Division Teams…

The Kings have really been struggling against Central Division teams. The team has lost four straight games against the Central Division. Furthermore, the Kings have been outscored 18-5. When you consider the Blues are playoff contenders and the Dallas Stars (the Kings opponent on 2/28) are Stanley Cup contenders, especially after their big trade on Friday, it does create concern regarding the Kings ability to beat good teams.

However, Saturday is a new day. After Saturday, the Kings take on Vegas. A string of good games against good teams can silence any doubts at the moment.

Prediction

The Blues have been playing great hockey. Until we have reason to do otherwise, we are picking the Blue Note.

Blues win, 5-3.

Prop Bets

The over/under is set at 5.5 goals. We are taking the over with eight total goals.

For prop bets, we like Alexey Toropchenko as an anytime-scorer for the Blues. The forward picked up a goal on Friday. We think he has the magic stick once again. For the Kings, we are like forward Quinton Byfield as an anytime-scorer.
