December 7, 2024 by Last Word On Hockey

NHL predictions

Welcome back to the return of NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head matchups and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is the Philadelphia Flyers vs Boston Bruins. Be sure to check out more NHL predictions in the coming days as the 2024-25 season continues.

NHL Predictions

Philadelphia Flyers vs Boston Bruins

Head-to-Head: Flyers 1-1 Bruins

Time: 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)

TV: NESN; NBC Sports Philadelphia; Sportsnet; ESPN+

Our first and featured game of NHL predictions has the Bruins hosting the Flyers. Ivan Fedotov is the projected starter in this game, but always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Philadelphia is coming off a loss, but is 6-3-1 in the last 10 games. Owen Tippett is coming off a two-goal game last time out.

Jeremy Swayman is the expected starter for the Bruins, who have won three straight and are also 6-3-1 in the last 10 games. Boston seems to have found its footing under interim coach Joe Sacco. Brad Marchand has posted five goals and two assists over the last 10 games.

Keep the early smart time in mind when setting lineups, but the Bruins should pick up the win.

Prediction: Bruins win 3-2.

Utah Hockey Club vs Buffalo Sabres

Time: 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)

TV: SN1; Utah16; MSG Buffalo; ESPN+

Our second game of NHL predictions has the Utah Hockey Club visiting the Buffalo Sabres. Karel Vejmelka is the confirmed starter for Utah, which has a 4-5-1 in the last 10 games. Dylan Guenther leads the club in goals while Clayton Keller is first in points with 22.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is the projected starter for the Sabres, who are losers of five straight games. Buffalo is 4-4-2 and is trying to stem the tide of their fading season. Tage Thompson is first in goals with 14 while Alex Tuch is tops in assists (16) and points (24).

Buffalo is desperate for a win and it will get a much-needed victory.

Prediction: Sabres win 4-2.

Colorado Avalanche vs Detroit Red Wings

Time: 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)

TV: Altitude; Fan Duel Sports Detroit Xtra; ESPN+

Our final game of NHL predictions has the Colorado Avalanche battle in the Detroit Red Wings. Colorado is 5-5 in the last 10 games, but have slowly climbed out of the bottom of the Central Division. Alexandar Georgiev is the likely starter for the Avalanche. Valeri Nichushkin has made a strong return with five goals and three assists over the past 10 games.

Detroit has lost four in a row and is 3-4-3 in the last 10 games. The Red Wings are likely to turn to Ville Husso in goal for this game, but he’s yet to record a victory this season. Lucas Raymond has registered nine goals and 18 assists for the Red Wings.

Colorado just has more firepower and picks up the victory against a struggling Detroit team.

Prediction: Avalanche win 5-3.

Prop Bets of the Night

We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. In the opener, go with Matvei Michkov to have a good game and is a +320 to score a goal for Philadelphia. David Pastrnak is a +110 to score for the Bruins in this game. Both of these prop bets come from BetMGM.
