Or will Ottawa show they have the Bruins number in 2025-26? Find out our thoughts next.
NHL Predictions with the Sens versus the Bruins
2024-25 Season Series – Ottawa was 3-1 with a victory in a shootout and one in overtime.
2025-26 Season Series – Ottawa 1 – 0 Boston
Start Time: 7:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)
How to Watch: RDS2; TSN5; NESN
Location: TD Garden from Boston, Massachusetts
The Boston – Ottawa rivalry always takes a bit of heightened energy to it. It probably goes back to the Zdeno Chara, and even Chris Kelly days, when the two former Senators would eventually capture the 2011 Stanley Cup championship with the Bruins. Skip ahead a few years, it is interesting that during the Bruins record-breaking 2022-23 run, the Sens were a team that played them particularly tough. For the Bruins, as a team with an .823 win percentage that year, and only 12 regulation losses, two of those came at the hands of the Senators. The Sens youth and speed wouldn’t fall into the trap of Boston’s stifling grip, led by Patrice Bergeron.
More recently, this rivalry is because of a trade. Joonas Korpisalo for the, at the time, just-one-year-removed, Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Linus Ullmark. Ullmark has been one of the Sens best players going back to last year. Meanwhile, Korpisalo keeps up a backup role to Jeremy Swayman. For tonight’s game, Swayman and Ullmark are listed as the respective expected starters, as of print. However, as we like to say, please check for the very latest lineup news and notes before locking in your daily fantasy roster.
The Matchup from the Senators Perspective
The Sens are trying their gosh, gall, darndest to turn the corner. We’ve been saying what they do well. What we want to focus on is goals-for-per-game, that sits sixth at 3.54. They are doing it with an excellent power play, currently ranked seventh at 27.1% success rate. They are exactly tied with New Jersey Devils in 11th with 28.9 shots per game.
The team shooting percentages are somewhat close at 12.2% and 12.1% for Ottawa and Boston, respectively. Ottawa is again, tied with New Jersey. Hmmm….lol Devils, Senators Eastern Conference Final? Well, likely not in 2026, maybe if they were ranking in the top-three, not just the upper-half, you know, playoff teams versus Stanley Cup contenders. Hey, prove me wrong eh.
For the Sens offensively, since Shane Pinto came out to a roaring start for 2025-26, the rest of the offence has picked it up to balance out the scoring. Tim Stutzle, Drake Batherson, or Dylan Cozens are poised to strike whenever the opportunity so presents itself.
What About the Bruins Story
The Bruins have started 2025-26 by defying expectations. David Pastrnak leads the charge, to no one’s surprise. He has seven goals and 11 assists through 15 games.
The Bruins have had success as their depth players have been producing consistently. This has provided them with a balanced, offensive attack.
The Bruins are 14th with 3.20 goals-per-game. They are again slightly ahead of the curve on the special teams. They rank 12th in both the power play (22%) and penalty kill (82.8%).
Unfortunately, for both teams, they aren’t great defensively. Boston is 26th with 3.40 goals-allowed-per-game and Ottawa is worse still at 3.92 ga/gp, ranking them second last. They teams have time to turn it around, but up until now, it hasn’t been good.
NHL Predictions
This one will be a tough battle, as we mentioned the rivalry aspect. Look for Boston to have a slight edge, being on home ice.
Prediction: Senators 3 – Bruins 4
Prop Bets
If you think you know who has been hot lately, check out these possible anytime scorers. For Boston, Morgan Geekie has been a pleasant surprise. He’s near the lead league with nine goals through 15 games. Meanwhile, Batherson has been hot for Ottawa. In his last five games, he has five goals and six assists. Combining the two players as anytime scorers, along with the game outcome, makes for a nice parlay.
