NHL Predictions: April 1st St. Louis Blues Vs. Detroit Red Wings

April 1, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome to another edition of NHL Predictions! Wow, April already? We are in the final days of the NHL regular season. It feels like the season just started yesterday. Well, time flies when you are having fun! We have more fun today to kick off the new month. Today may be April Fool’s Day, but we are not joking when we say we have an old hockey rivalry to look at today. The St. Louis Blues are hosting the Detroit Red Wings.

NHL Predictions

St. Louis Blues vs. Detroit Red Wings

Time: 8:00 P.M. EST

TV: FanDuel Sports Network Midwest, FanDuel Sports Network Detroit

Head-to-Head: Blues Lead 1-0

The Blues and Red Wings wrap up their season series on Tuesday. In December, shortly before Christmas, the Blues beat the Wings in Detroit, 4-0. Dylan Holloway gave Blue Note fans an early Christmas present by picking up his first-career hat trick.

If the Blues can beat the Wings, they will sweep their longtime rivals for the first time since the 2019-20 season, when the teams only met one before the season paused.

Blues to Debut Prospect?

The Blues will look to add on to their lead in the Western Conference wild card race. However, that is not the only exciting thing happening for the organization. Former first-round pick Jimmy Snuggerud signed his entry-level contract with the Blues on Friday after the conclusion of his college season. Snuggerud joined the Blues for practice on Monday. He practiced on the third line alongside Zachary Bolduc and Oskar Sundqvist. It is unclear if Snuggerud will play Tuesday, although practicing on a line seems to indicate he will be.

As far as the playoff race, the Blues still control their destiny provided they keep winning. The Blues have done a lot of winning lately, as they are going for a tenth-straight victory. The team is only two wins away from tying the franchise record for consecutive wins, set by the 2019 Blues, who won 11 straight.

Red Wings Still in the Race

The Red Wings have nine games left in the season. They are still in the race for the Eastern Conference’s last playoff spot, trailing only by a few point. However, their remaining nine games will not be easy. All remaining games come against teams fighting for a playoff spot. Some are even Stanley Cup contenders. However, the Red Wings will face the Montreal Canadiens, who they are chasing for the last playoff spot. That could be an interesting game with major playoff implications.

Vintage Alert

The Blues and Red Wings have a long rivalry dating back to the Wings time in the Western Conference. For Tuesday, the rivalry renews with sweaters that will bring some nostalgia.

For the second time this season, the Blues will wear their 90’s vintage sweaters. These sweaters are synonymous with the 90’s Blues, including the acquisition of Wayne Gretzky. Of course, for Red Wings fans, they fondly remember Steve Yzerman‘s influence on that Blues team.

Prediction

Until the evidence says otherwise, we are picking the Blues!

Blues win, 3-0.

Prop Bets

The over/under is set at 5.5 goals. We are taking the under with three goals.

For prop bets, while we are predicting the Red Wings to put up a goose egg, we will pick Lucas Raymond as anytime-scorer just in case. For the Blues, we are taking Jordan Binnington.

APRIL FOOLS!!

For the Blue Note, we will pick Brayden Schenn.
