New York Rangers Boost Offence With Top Prospect Ahead of Final Playoff Push

April 1, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The New York Rangers have signed 19-year-old forward Gabe Perreault to a three-year entry-level contract (ELC) ahead of the final playoff push. Great news for New York fans! After a negative streak of just two wins in their last five games, Rangers fans are getting a breath of fresh air. Although head coach Peter Laviolette is in the eye of the storm for his decision-making in the team’s last few games, some individuals have stepped up and kept the Rangers hopes of qualifying for the upcoming playoffs alive. Recently, names like Alexis Lafreniere, Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin, J.T. Miller, or Jonathan Quick have been able to respond when they have been wanted, in the absence of collective solutions from their coach. Now, the New York Rangers boost their offence. With this signing of a forward who, on paper, could have a quick impact on the team’s offence.

New York Rangers Hope Gabe Perreault Provides Spark

This Monday, it was confirmed that the New York Rangers have agreed to terms with young forward Gabe Perreault on a three-year, ELC. The move clearly shows how the New York Rangers want to boost their offence for the long term. Perreault recorded 108 points in 73 NCAA games (35 goals and 73 assists), and looks to bring creativity and plenty of damage to opponents. Despite being only 19 years old, Perreault has already won two gold medals at the World Junior Championships, in the 2024 and 2025 editions. Each tournament, his line of three goals and seven assists was identical. For the time being, Perreault will be an addition to add depth to the team. He will be available in case there is a need to rotate the roster. Alternatively, in case of an emergency in the long, grueling fight for the Stanley Cup.

Perreault and His Records

In his first year in the NCAA with Boston College, Gabe Perreault recorded 19 goals and 41 assists in 36 games for 60 points. That year, he was the second player with the most assists and fourth in total points. In his second year at the NCAA, Perreault followed it up. He scored 16 goals and dished out 32 assists in 37 games for 48 points. He was fourth in assists, eighth in points per game (1.30), and 11th in total points.

In his time with the USNTDP, he achieved historical records. They include being the fourth-best in assists (114) and points (185) in the history of the program. Among that time with the program, he ended up with the best all-time season in the USNTDP. He topped Will Smith that year. Perreault had 132 points from 53 goals, and 79 assists during the 2022-2023 campaign. Meanwhile, Smith had a miniscule 127 points.

Perreault was initially selected in the first round, 23rd overall, of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The Rangers were the team to draft him back then, and today, he is now set to report to New York.
