Quite a shift for the Oilers.
Welcome to Friday, folks!
For fans of the Edmonton Oilers, this is certainly a bright, sunny Friday, with the Oilers having a new lease on life after a huge comeback win in Florida last night.
Edmonton, already down 2-1 in the series, were down 3-0 in Game 4 after just 20 minutes.
The Oilers then scored three goals in the second period to tie it before actually taking the lead in the third period.
Florida would tie the game with 20 seconds left, but Edmonton ultimately hung in there and Leon Draisaitl (who else) scored in OT to give the Oilers a massive win.
From staring at a 3-1 series deficit to heading home for a best-of-three finish — quite a swing, eh?
Former Bruin Brad Marchand, who has been as good as automatic for the Panthers in this series, put up a rare 0-0-0 stat line in the loss.
In Bruins news, David Pastrnak was named to the league’s Second All-Star Team after an impressive 43G-63A-106PTS season.
Pastrnak also led the NHL in even strength points, which should earn him a special trophy for achieving that feat on last year’s Bruins team.
This is the second time Pastrnak has been named to this team. He also has two First All-Star Team merits over his career.
Joining Pastrnak on the Second All-Star Team are Brandon Hagel, Draisaitl, Victor Hedman, Quinn Hughes, and Andrei Vasilevskiy.
Other than that, new head coach Marco Sturm is making the media and “hello, fellow Boston coach” rounds, appearing on 98.5 The Sports Hub and throwing out the first pitch at a recent Red Sox game.
Finally, we continue to wait for the draft.
GM Don Sweeney caused a bit of intrigue earlier this week when he alluded to making the best decision for the team, including making the pick at #7.
Some suggested that meant he was shopping the pick for more immediate help, but it probably just meant he’s doing his due diligence to see what the team’s options are.
Either way, we have two weeks to find out!
What’s on tap for today?
