A former Bruin might be getting locked down to play in Edmonton for a good long while.
Good morning, my friends. It is with a confused heart that I say “Stan Bowman is at it again”.
Former Bruin Erik Haula got moved to Nashville, which oughta be a nice change of pace for him, the real Bruins-related story is that Trent Frederic is currently rumored to be getting an 8 year extension with the Oilers worth $4 million AAV.
Y’know what? good for him! He’s definitely gonna be a lot of the traditional media figures in Edmonton’s favorite player with his play style, and he was able to salvage an otherwise pretty rough season by playing decently with the Oil. If this is true, it’s exceptional work by his agent to ensure he has a place to call home for a good long time while making enough money to get a real nice life together wherever he chooses; so long as it’s got an airport to get him back to Alberta.
It’s just…man that’s a long time for a depth guy.
I thought we were beyond these kind of contracts when we all saw Lou Lamiorello lock down Pierre Engvall forever and ever and agreed that was kind of a dumb idea for teams to do. Unless they expect Freddy to play bigger minutes in the coming years, I can’t imagine what the Oilers are thinking with this. Even at his best, I don’t think I’m being mean by saying you kind of need to justify this with other upgrades around him. Particularly behind him.
In net, principally.
But hey, at least the cap’s going up, right? Guys in his position are probably gonna be making that kind of money all the time once the cap leaps over $100 million. This’ll be fiiiiiine in two years. I’m sure it’ll work out.
Anyway, what’s on tap? What’s the single most irresponsible thing you think you could purchase with 4 million dollars if I handed it to you right now?
I for one would probably own a fleet of SVX’s for each day of the week and holidays.
