State, that is.
A new week is upon us, folks! Welcome to mid-June(ish).
The official start of summer is just a couple of weeks away, so buckle up and force yourself to endure several more months of riveting Red Sox baseball.
The Stanley Cup Final got knotted at a game apiece over the weekend, thanks in large part to former Bruin Brad Marchand.
Marchand scored twice in Florida’s Game 2 win, including the game-winning goal in double OT.
Marchand’s strong play for Florida has, inevitably, brought about a new round of “see never should have traded him” takes.
When your team is bad and the draft isn’t quite here yet, takes are the only sustenance we have left, so…dig in.
On the one hand, I can see why it’s frustrating for Bruins fans to see Marchand excel in Florida; on the other hand, he should play well on an exceedingly talented team and in a smaller role than he had in Boston.
I think my overall take would be that both things can be true: it’s tough to watch him light it up for the Panthers, but it was still the right decision for the franchise to get something for him.
In Bruins news, new head coach Marco Sturm will hold his introductory press conference tomorrow, meeting the assembled media on Causeway Street at 11 AM.
His new boss, GM Don Sweeney, will join him.
These press conferences are mostly copy-paste quotes, but it will be interesting to hear why Sturm accepted the role, how he thinks his style fits the current roster, maybe what he hopes the team will add this summer…I guess we’ll see.
Lastly, congratulations to Portugal for winning the UEFA Nations League on Sunday! Remember, it’s only a meaningless trophy if your team/country didn’t win.
What’s on tap for today?
