A whole lot of it, actually.
We are officially in the boring season, folks!
The draft is over. Free agency is over, as all of the big fish have either stayed home or selected their new homes.
Even Development Camp, which got a bit of juice this year after the Bruins drafted James Hagens, is in the rearview mirror.
Now, we’re left with…just summer.
In general terms, that’s a good thing — summer is the best season, in my unbiased opinion, but your view on that may differ depending on where you live.
In hockey terms, summer means there’s pretty much nothing going on. Like, at all.
To fill space, we’ll continue to argue over the merits of the Tanner Jeannot contract and other fun things, so…buckle up.
There have been bits and pieces to pick up over the last few days, including:
- Recent draft pick Cooper Simpson will put off joining the University of North Dakota for another year and return to the USHL instead.
- Elliotte Friedman shared some thoughts on the Bruins’ approach to free agency, musing that the Jeannot signing may take some of the on-ice police work off of Nikita Zadorov’s plate.
- Tyler Johnson, who had a cup of coffee with the Bruins last season, retired on Monday.
In addition, Conor Ryan of Boston.com had a nice sit-down with new head coach Marco Sturm, in which they covered:
- Sturm’s Dunkin’ order (important to know around these parts)
- What he wants the identity of this year’s Bruins team to be
- His vision for integrating young players into the roster
Coming to the end of this post, I guess “Nothing” might have been a bit of a stretch, as there are things going on after all.
We’ll likely keep Morning Skates at an every-other-day cadence for a while, along with covering any news.
We’ll bring back player ratings at some point too, but I’m open to input on how to proceed with that — do you like voting on the players and comparing them to our votes? Do you think a different format would be better?
Discuss.
