Dallas Stars Superstar Forward Out Week to Week

April 19, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The excitement surrounding the Dallas Stars fourth straight trip to the Stanley Cup playoffs took a major hit on Friday. Head coach Peter DeBoer announced that Jason Robertson suffered a lower-body injury in the regular-season finale against the Predators. While he didn’t go into detail about any specifics, he did say Robertson will be out on a week-to-week basis. The last thing any Stars fan wants to hear right before the start of the playoffs.

Robertson suffered the injury during the second period of a 5-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Wednesday. Predators forward Michael McCarron collided with Robertson awkwardly along the boards. This caused Robertson to leave the game, and he was later seen leaving the arena with a brace on his right leg.

Robertson has been one of the leaders of the Stars’ offensive attack. Through 82 games, he has recorded a team-high 35 goals, as well as 45 assists and 80 points. He’s been a staple on the top line throughout the regular season and one of the core pieces the roster is built around. He’s also one of Dallas’ most clutch players, finishing tied for second in game-winning goals with Matt Duchene with six. His production will not be easy to replace.

With the Dallas Star forward out week to week, it puts a major wrench in their gameplay against the Colorado Avalanche. With the series starting on Saturday, Robertson is unlikely to be available throughout the entire series. In a best-case scenario, Roberston could suit up for a potential Game Five, which is set for Monday, April 28th. However, that is the best-case scenario. Without knowing the exact details of the injury, it’s difficult to determine when he’ll return. The Stars should be prepared to be without Robertson for the entire series.

This injury also takes away from the buzz surrounding the Stars-Avalanche series. A first-round matchup between two Stanley Cup favorites should be the most anticipated series of the opening round. However, without Robertson, it’s unknown if the Stars will have the same success. Guys like Duchene, Mikko Rantanen, Wyatt Johnston, and Jake Oettinger will need to step up their game for Dallas to have a chance in the series.
