Calgary Flames Forward Injured and Out for Season

November 11, 2024 by Last Word On Hockey

Anthony Mantha injured

The Calgary Flames have announced a big blow to their lineup. News emerged Monday afternoon that forward Anthony Mantha is injured and will have surgery later this week. This means the veteran forward will be out for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury.

Anthony Mantha Injured and Will Miss Rest of Season

Mantha has played for the Detroit Red Wings, Washington Capitals, Vegas Golden Knights and the Flames over his 10-year NHL career. The Longueuil, Quebec native had four goals and three assists for seven points in 13 games this season. He had a Corsi for of 54.3 and a relative Corsi of 6.0.

The 30-year-old forward has 146 goals and 157 assists for 303 points in 507 career games. Detroit originally drafted Mantha in the first round, 20th overall of the 2013 NHL Draft. He is the grandson of former NHLer André Pronovost.

Mantha has represented his native Canada on the international level. He was part of the fourth-place team at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championships. The winger picked up a silver medal for Team Canada in the 2019 IIHF World Championships. Mantha racked up seven goals and seven assists to help pace his home nation.

What It Means

The 6-foot, 5-inch forward was tied for third on the team in goals with four this season. Mantha had been playing well this season and been one of the veterans on a younger roster. The Flames were supposed to be in a rebuild. However, they did get off to a good start this campaign.

He was making $3.5 million after signing a one-year deal with Calgary in the off-season. However, one wonders if he’s done enough to get another deal.

The Flames may still end up towards the bottom of the standings. However, Mantha was one of the reasons they did get off to a decent start. He could have been a potential trade chip. However, he’ll be out of play with his season being over.
