Boston Bruins Captain Injury Update

March 4, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The Boston Bruins are in the middle of a playoff race and now they have some bad news to report. Today we have been provided an update on the injury to the pest and captain himself, Brad Marchand. Right now, the Bruins are listing the forward’s injury status to week-to-week.

Brad Marchand Injury Update Provides Difficult Timeline

Update: Status on Marchand, injured at PIT, now is “week to week.”

Marchand has had a bit of an inconsistent 2024-25. He was lucky to be one of the initial six skaters named to Team Canada in the fall. Additionally, he was motivated by playing in the 4 Nations tournament that saw his Canadian squad walk away as champions. He and the Bruins had been hoping he could carry that positive momentum over to the stretch drive.

Through 61 games, Marchand had 21 goals and 26 assists for 47 points at the time of the injury. That’s not bad, but it would’ve had him on pace for his lowest point total (around 63) since the 2015-16 season. Furthermore, the last Bruins game, the one he missed, was the first game he had missed this year. So, he had done well to bounce back this year following on off-season spent recovering from surgery.

Now the focus shifts to the Bruins, as they are involved in a tight playoff race. Nine teams are within ten points of each other in the Eastern Conference wild card standings. Boston is somewhere in the middle, currently only two points out of a playoff position. This injury to Marchand and the uncertainty of the time table, but not necessarily short term, is all very important for the Bruins management. Moreover, with players like Trent Frederic, Brandon Carlo, and Justin Brazeau potentially on the trading block, the Bruins are seen as sellers. Could this injury suddenly influence general manager Don Sweeney’s decision making? Only time will tell.
